IP Inclusive - Senior Leaders' Pledge

One of Swindell & Pearson’s directors, Martin Terry, has signed up as a founding signatory to IP Inclusive’s "Senior Leaders' Pledge". This is an initiative to help senior professionals provide visible and active leadership on improving Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) in their organisation and in the IP profession as a whole.
IP Inclusive - Senior Leaders' Pledge
As a senior leader at Swindell & Pearson, I, Martin Terry, make the following pledge to demonstrate my personal commitment to improving Diversity and Inclusivity (“D&I”) in our firm and in the IP profession as a whole.
I commit to:
1. Providing visible and proactive leadership to improve D&I in my organisation
• Being personally involved in, contributing to, and encouraging D&I projects and events
• Putting my name to a public statement of our firm’s commitment to D&I
2. Taking D&I seriously at the highest level
• Acting as a D&I champion at board level
• Encouraging senior colleagues to provide visible and proactive leadership on D&I issues
3. Embedding and valuing D&I throughout the organisational culture
• Including D&I-related topics on the agendas of internal events such as for new starter induction and in-house educational meetings, discussions and webinars
• Assisting to build and maintain a culture in which the whole of our firm is involved in the quest for D&I
4. Building trust and safe spaces throughout the organisation
• Encouraging staff, at all levels, to bring their whole selves to work and speak openly about their identities and life outside work, and leading by example where I can
5. Educating myself and my colleagues about D&I issues
• Promoting and supporting unconscious bias awareness, privilege awareness, and allyship for staff at all levels
6. Sharing my privileges
• Ensuring that our firm continues to support and be involved with IP Inclusive’s initiatives
• Widening the channels through which we advertise vacancies in our firm
7. Insisting on equity
• Promoting and supporting fair, diversity-enhancing recruitment and promotion procedures throughout our firm
• Encouraging regular reviews of HR procedures to ensure they are effective
8. Working closely with HR and/or management colleagues to achieve this
• Encouraging and supporting our HR personnel in effecting D&I-related changes in our firm
