Fully funded intellectual property audits available for businesses in Wolverhampton and the surrounding Black Country
August 16, 2018
Businesses in Wolverhampton and the surrounding Black Country area (including Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, and other Black Country postcodes) can now receive a fully funded intellectual property (IP) audit to help with new product design and innovation.
The funding covers IP audits for products associated with the built environment. This includes products associated with buildings or built infrastructure, for example. Further, the product should be identifiable as a low carbon product, for example a design requirement may be to reduce energy use.
An IP audit is a comprehensive review conducted by a patent and/or trade mark attorney.
They will evaluate any IP assets associated with the product such as patents, trade marks and design rights.
The IP audit will also identify any unregistered rights that a business may have but hasn’t yet protected, as well as the owners of any rights.
IP audits are an extremely useful tool that many businesses use as part of their strategic decision making.
IP audits help to identify opportunities for growth and potential threats to plan against.
If a business is planning on launching new products or considering entering into new markets then an IP audit can provide valuable information on helping to make the new ventures a success.
IP audits are also used by businesses when considering acquisitions, sales or applying for funding, and are used to give confidence to investors and partners.
The funding is offered by Built Environment Climate Change Innovations (BECCI) which is a project run by the University of Wolverhampton and part-funded by the European Union.
The BECCI project aims to support local businesses with product innovation, encouraging SMEs to become innovation active, and encouraging adoption of low carbon technologies.
Swindell & Pearson has been selected to help deliver the IP audits in partnership with BECCI.
The IP audits can be provided at your premises. Our Wolverhampton Science Park office is also available for meetings if preferred.
The pilot scheme is launched now (August 2018) and will run initially until October 2018 and anyone who is interested in receiving an audit should enquire soon.
