Amelia joined Swindell & Pearson in January 2025 as an IP director in the trade mark practice group. Amelia qualified as a chartered UK trade mark attorney in 2020 and brings with her over 8 years of experience as an IP attorney.
Amelia is responsible for the management of a wide range of UK, EU and international trade mark portfolios. Amelia advises on trade mark clearance, filing strategy, prosecution and registration matters. Much of Amelia’s work involves representing clients in settlement negotiations, opposition proceedings, invalidity or revocation actions and working with solicitors and overseas counsel. Amelia also deals with design rights, copyright, company name disputes, domain name recovery and online brand enforcement.
Amelia has expertise in representing clients with trade mark interests in a range of industries, including fashion, food & beverage, oil & gas, technology, finance, and the automotive sector. Prior to joining Swindell & Pearson, Amelia participated in a 6-month secondment to Jaguar Land Rover in 2017 and a 5-month secondment to Group Lotus in 2022.
Amelia was recognised as a 'Notable Individual' by World IP Review (WIPR) in their 2024 UK trade mark rankings. Amelia has also been listed as a WIPR Leader for 2024 by World IP Review (WIPR).
Amelia regularly attends international conferences and is a member of various IP professional organisations including CITMA, ECTA, INTA, PTMG and Marques. Amelia is the UK representative on ECTA's Supervisory Board, as well as being a member of the ECTA Internet Committee and a co-founder of the ECTA Young Professionals Group.
Amelia is also a member of the CITMA Review Editorial Group and part of the Young Professionals Advisory Group for INTA.
Before entering the profession, Amelia graduated with an undergraduate degree in law from Durham University and wrote her dissertation on IP in the Fashion Industry. Prior to joining Swindell & Pearson, Amelia trained and qualified with a leading firm of patent and trade mark attorneys in London.
Outside of work, Amelia enjoys long walks by the river, a good fantasy book and a big mug of Yorkshire tea!
