Tim GilbertAssociate

Tim is a member of the firm’s Hi-tech team which has again been praised in the 2017 edition of the Legal 500. The team has previously been commended for its “strength in the telecoms and semiconductor sectors”.

Tim is experienced in drafting and prosecuting patents for a wide variety of technologies in the physical sciences, particularly in the fields of engineering, consumer products and software.

Tim's client base includes individuals, SMEs and multinational corporations. Consequently, he not only manages large international patent portfolios for corporate clients, he also understands the needs of those new to the world of intellectual property.

Having gained experience in an in-house patent department, Tim understands that clients highly value his enthusiasm to learn about their technology, the market, and their long-term business goals. This is reflected in all of Tim's intellectual property advice.

Tim has a PhD in railway aerodynamics from the University of Birmingham. Tim also has a 1st class M.Eng degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Birmingham.

During his time at University Tim attained seven prestigious awards for his achievements in academia and industry, including the 2010 City of Birmingham Queen’s Silver Jubilee Engineering Award, a shortlisting for the 2010 SET (Science Engineering and Technology) Award, and a best academic journal paper award. Tim also interned in one of the largest global Engineering consultancies.

Outside work, Tim enjoys live music, playing guitar, motorsport, and making opportunities to practise his Finnish.
